        Movable Books: Pop Ups

Matthew Reinhart and Robert Sabuda have been at the forefront of the explosion in popularity of pop-ups – three-dimensional movable books relying on intricate and innovative paper engineering. Their books have included Alice in Wonderland, The Movable Mother Goose and The Wizard of Oz. In this story, Matthew Reinhart gives a behind-the-scenes look at their Manhattan studio, and shows how the creative process starts with scissors and paper, giving an example from his book series on prehistoric creatures. Also interviewed is Rutgers University librarian Ann Montanaro, founder of The Movable Book Society, a forum for artists, collectors and other pop-up book enthusiasts. Montanaro gives historical context to the movable book phenomenon.
