What Is a Wave?

Learn about waves in this interactive activity adapted from Dr. Dan Russell, Kettering University, and the University of Utah's ASPIRE Lab. See how a line of people create a wave by standing up and sitting down, and how a wave travels along a string. Explore how a wave moves through different mediums with a tool that allows you to adjust the density of the material and manipulate the direction of a wave disturbance. Also, investigate why a boat on the ocean bobs up and down and is not carried to shore by the water waves.

This media asset was adapted from Acoustic Animations by Dr. Dan Russell, Kettering University, and from the ASPIRE Lab, University of Utah.
