  • SciGirls | Terrific Pacific 03: Mentor Moment

The SciGirls learn about the structure of giant kelp forests and work with their mentor to identify the animals that they caught on their video footage. Girls benefit from relationships with mentors. Not only can mentors guide the girls through an inquiry investigation, but they also serve as role models, someone succeeding at a scientific career.

  • SciGirls | Terrific Pacific 04: Share with Scientists

The SciGirls share the data they collected about the health of the marine protected area with a university scientist who is looking at all the data collected in the kelp forest. The girls learn that it's important to collect data often to get a better picture of the habitat, particularly before and after local storms.

  • SciGirls | Terrific Pacific 05: Share

The SciGirls learned a lot about the health of their local marine protected area and want to share everything they learned with the public. The girls make a video to share all the important information they learned and why everyone should care about the oceans.

  • SciGirls | All Tangled Up

A food web shows how energy moves through a community and the relationships among the different food chains.  All organisms in an ecosystem depend on each other to survive; when one species starts to decline, multiple species may be affected because of the interconnectedness of life within the system. Scientists monitor species in an ecosystem to make sure everything is in balance.
