The Brooklyn Bridge was the largest bridge of its time when it opened in 1883. Designed by architects John and Washington Roebling, it took 14 years to complete. More than 600 workers, many of them immigrants, worked on the bridge's construction, and dozens lost their lives. The bridge has become a symbol of New York City, inspiring writers, artists, and musicians for more than 100 years.
