Kids in Motion


Kids in Motion is part of WSKG Public Media’s Working on Wellness project. WSKG and partners Binghamton City School District, Broome-Tioga BOCES and the Broome County Health Department created lessons and media clips based upon Movement in the Classroom Physical Education curriculum.

These video segments range in length from five to fifteen minutes demonstrating simple yet meaningful movement activities that are easily replicable in the classroom, after school or home setting.

This collection includes over 50 videos and lessons covering a wide variety of curriculum including, Math, English Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Physical Education, The Arts and World Languages. These videos and lessons are geared towards grades Kindergarten through 5th.

  • Deal or No Deal

    In this exciting video for grades 2 through 5, students get to unite the cognitive and psychomotor skills.  Students pick a card with an exercise such as 20 crunches on it. They then decide whether to take the deal by showing a thumbs-up or to decline the deal by showing a thumbs-down. Students may pass once and then must perform the exercise on the second card they select.

  • Active Deck of Cards

    Read playing cards to find out how many repetitions of each exercise to do. Then exercise along with the kids in the video to improve your number recognition and fitness level at the same time.

  • Music Fitness Part 1

    In this 3rd through 5th grade Kids in Motion video, students follow their teacher’s instruction as they walk through a plethora of movements and stretches that target the whole body. Each of the psychomotor movements corresponds to the beat or rhythm of the music.

  • Music Fitness Part 2

    In this 3rd through 5th grade video, students follow their teacher’s lead as they move through movements and stretches that target the whole body. Each of the psychomotor movements corresponds to the beat or rhythm of the music making students use their cognitive skills.

  • Fun In Fitness

    In this 3rd through 5th grade video, students have fun in fitness as they follow along with their teacher as she walks them through a variety of exercises and stretches targeting the whole body. Using their psychomotor and cognitive skills, students get a good exercise and stretch.

  • Action Verbs

    In this 3rd through 5th grade video, students connect exercise and literacy. The teacher reads a sentence aloud and students must identify the action verb that was read and then act it out accordingly. This is a great lesson to combine focus on cognitive and psychomotor skills.

    Students have a blast in this 3rd through 5th grade video competing against their teacher in this game of fitness and fun!
