Aluminum and Copper Body | Raw to Ready: Bombardier

This image taken from Raw to Ready: Bombardier demonstrates that when the aluminum copper alloy is hot – but not red hot or molten – the atoms can move through the lattice. Copper atoms will move through the alloy and attach with other copper atoms, forming nanometer-sized particles. These particles block deformation on the atomic scale, but it takes time for this to happen which is why it’s called age hardening.
