Frame Ask your students to describe what makes a good mother, either an animal mother like a mother cat to her kittens, or a human mother, and list the answers on the board. Explain that dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals had babies and some were thought to be more involved in mothering than others.
Focus Explain to your students they will be watching a clip from Dinosaur Train where the Pteranodon family meets a Maiasaura family. Ask you students to identify what a mother Maiasaura does that would make her good at mothering.
Follow-Up Ask your students:
“Why does the mother Maiasaura keep her children close? “(She keeps them close so she can always see them)
“Why does the mother Maiasaura not want her children to play a game?” (She thinks it is safer to not play)
“Why might a mother want to keep her babies safe?” (She is responsible for nurturing them and helping them grow up)
