The Moon from Space, Illustration | Earth and Space

The Moon from space. Artwork of the surface of the moon based on data obtained by unmanned US space probes. The Ptolemaeus crater can be seen at far left. At top center is the dark Mare Tranquillitatis (Sea of Tranquillity), which became famous by the first manned lunar landing. In the center of the picture, the Theophilus impact crater separates the Mare Tranquillitatis and the Mare Nectaris (Sea of Nectar, dark, lower right).
