Black Holes and the Big Bang | Hawking

During the early 1960's, when a young Stephen Hawking began facing the beginnings of a debilitating disease, he turned his sights towards answering the biggest question in cosmology: the big bang. Through his research, Hawking was able to trace back the origins of the universe to a singularity-similar to that which was theorized to hold the key to understanding black holes-and prove controversially that it was possible for the universe to have originated naturally at a single point in time and space. His proof shattered the understanding of both science and religion of the time, ushering in a new era of cosmological research.
