        Country

"Chuck Vanderchuck's 'Something Something' Explosion" is designed to help children ages 6 to 9 understand music and music composition by teaching basic musical concepts and performance skills through the study of popular song styles from around the world. Children are introduced to a new musical style: country. They learn about the culture from which country was born and then learn to perform basic country rhythmic and melodic patterns through the use of fun, interactive games.

        The History of Country Music

In this clip from "Chuck Vanderchuck's 'Something Something' Explosion," Chuck and Ramona break down the history of Country music. Country music started in the southern United States as early as the 19th century. European immigrants and ex-slaves of West African descent settling in the Appalaichian Mountain region started mixing the folk music they brought with them with the new experiences they were having in America to create something new. By mixing their music and using such instruments as the fiddle, dulcimer, mandolin, guitar, and banjo, Country music was born.
