Discuss with students the designs of Homer Laughlin China through the years. What designs did they see in the video and if they have any Homer Laughlin China in their homes what does it look like? Discuss the color choices, shapes, and artwork that was included. Students may also share the designs they see on other dinnerware including paper plates, etc.
Give each student a sheet of white paper and markers, colored pencils, or crayons available. Tell them they will design one item of dinnerware/china to represent their community/school or a particular career that interests them.
When finished they should give their dinnerware/china a name to reflect the design and share with classmates.
