The Army Corps of Engineers, who manage water operations along the Apalachicola/ Chattahoochee/ Flint basin, come to Apalachicola Bay for a demonstration of the severity of the collapse of its oyster fishery. The fishery collapsed after two years of drought-reduced river flow from the Apalachicola River. As the paddlers conclude RiverTrek, they continue to explore and learn about the issue affecting the river basin. Students will have the opportunity to learn about the resources provided by the Apalachicola River and Bay, and the factors threatening them.
