Learn about Hitler's final large attempt to halt the Allied advance in Western Europe. The stalemate in the Hurtgen Forest buys Hitler time to build up troops and machines to launch an assault on the Allied forces. It becomes known as the Battle of the Bulge. 250,000 German soldiers, 2,000 artillery pieces and 1,000 tanks assault a 75 mile stretch of the American line. While they make initial ground the Allied forces are just too great. They counter attack the Germans and drive them back and past the Siegfried Line. For the Germans the war is all but lost.
