        Built on Agriculture - Selkirk Settlers | Native Americans at Forks

        The Forks was a well-known gathering place for Native Americans, where they planted corn and potatoes. In 1812, the first party of settlers arrived and met unlivable conditions. The Chief Peguis of First Nation Saulteaux helped them survive the first months and years.
