        Samuel De Champlain | Famous Explorers

        Circa 1610, French explorer Samuel de Champlain (1567 - 1635), otherwise known as Samuel de Brouage, who founded the Canadian city of Quebec as a fur trading-post. He explored the Great Lakes of North America in 1615 and was made commandant of New France in 1612.
