Barefoot feet in "zikr" ritual. Omdurman, Sudan | World Religions: Islam

Collective prayer of the members of the Sammaniya Muslim sect, part of the mystic Islamic Sufi Order, on October 3, 2014 in Omdurman, Sudan. At the center of this Sufi sect or 'tariqa' led by Shaykh Hassan Qariballah, takes place every Friday the 'zikr' or 'dhikr' ritual, a spiritual practice in which the name of Allah and the Koran passages are repeated in mantras and chants accompanied by rhythmic body movements and jumps, as a form of meditation and contact with God, which can sometimes end up in ecstasy or trance.
