A Look Inside the City of Homs, Central Battlefield of Syria’s War

The city of Homs was once considered the rebel stronghold in the now three-year-long Syrian civil war, which has left more than 140,000 people dead. However, what's left of the city was mostly controlled by Assad government forces by April of 2014. Keep your students apprised of the most recent events with this PBS NewsHour video and resources from April 4, 2014. For further background and materials to support student understanding of the issue see the Teacher’s Guide, Student Handout, and Informational Text in Support Materials below.
