        The Surrender of Fort Sumter (1861) and Resource Materials

        This is a fascimile of the telegram sent by Union General Robert Anderson describing the course of the conflict at Ft. Sumter and his ultimate surrender to the Confederates. The Battle of Ft. Sumter, which took place on on April 12 and 13, 1861, was the first engagement of the Civil War. After 34 hours of fighting, the Union surrendered to the Confederates.
