Ask students to generate two lists: My All-Time Favorite Toys and Toys That Were Disappointing.
Ask students to then create a vocabulary list of descriptive words (adjectives) for why toys were favorites and why toys were disappointing. Students should be able to explain why they used a particular word to describe a toy....
Discuss with students the meaning of design, research, manufacture, prototype.
View Toy Story:
Ask students to listen for the terms just discussed.
Take some time to discuss the content of the program and ask in what ways the vocabulary terms were used. What toys would they put on their favorite list and what would be on the disappointing list?
Follow-Up Design Activity:
This may be done in teams or as individuals.
Students are now the designers of a new toy.
They are to draw, label, and explain what they think would be the "best toy ever". This can be done with pencils and paper or using available design programs (technology).
Completed designs should be shared with other teams or the class.
