        Ocean Glider Robots in Antarctica

Oceanographer Oscar Schofield teams up with a group of world-class researchers in a race to understand climate change in the fastest winter-warming place on earth: the West Antarctic Peninsula. Schofield's innovative fleet of glider robots allows him to study phytoplankton blooms and how they influence the feeding patterns of Adelie penguins. He collaborates with other scientists who study krill, bacteria, birds, and whales, to gain a macro view on the changing ecology in Antarctica. These ocean gliders are outfitted with a variety of sensors that allow him to collect temperature, depth, salinity and phytoplankton data throughout the ocean waters surrounding the West Antarctic Peninsula.
