        Cornell University

Founded by a true innovator, Ezra Cornell, Cornell University has a major influence on the Tompkins County local commerce. Ezra Cornell grew up poor but was a self-educated and a self-made man. He saw the need for colleges that would provide an education for practical subjects, so he collaborated with fellow Senator, Andrew White, and birthed Cornell University. Originally opened in 1868 with 412 students, today the university has over 700 buildings and 20,000 students.
