Pamukkale, Denizli Turkey | UNESCO World Heritage Site

The travertine terraces at Pamukkale have been formed by the hot spring at the feet of Cal Dagi which is saturated with Calcium biocarbonate surging over the edge of the plateau which then cools giving off cardon dioxide, the calcium carbonate then hardens into travertine. The terraces have formed over thousands of years.
