        Pacific Railway Act (1862) and Resource Materials

        This resource contains a facsimile of the 1862 Pacific Railway Act. This act, passed on July 1, 1862, provided Federal subsidies in land and loans for the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad, completed on May 10, 1869. The workforce behind it included more than 8,000 Irish, German, and Italian immigrants, and over 10,000 Chinese laborers.
