203: Colonial Georgia, Part II | Georgia Stories

Georgia was colonized by the hard working poor and those seeking religious freedom. Contrary to popular belief, Georgia was not founded as a debtors colony. The first wave of immigrants to Georgia were merchants and artisans. Part of the second group was comprised of Lutherans fleeing Austria in search of religious freedom. All different groups were needed to come together to make the colony a home. For that, they needed to get information out, which was done with the founding of some of the oldest newspapers in the south.
