World War II Veteran Jack Wilkes -
1st Sergeant, Navy | Georgia Oral History

Jack Wilkes remembers accidentally dropping depth charges on a whale, how he almost lost his leg, and receiving a letter from the great-grandson of a friend who died during the war. Mr. Wilkes grew up in a house without electricity and had to be told by a neighbor that the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor. He enlisted in the Navy to help serve his country.
