        Lincoln and Johnson

This clip from Lincoln@Gettysburg focuses on the relationship between President Lincoln and his personal valet, William H. Johnson, and examines the role of color prejudice in Washington D.C. in the mid-19th century. Lincoln chose Johnson, an African American, to accompany him on the train trip to Gettysburg for the dedication of the National Cemetery, as he considered the content of the address he would give there.
