CCMP2 - Reason Abstractly and Quantitatively

Understanding the components of this mathematical problem and combining all of the parts to create models that will help students understand and solve the problem is a rigorous task for these youngsters. They struggle to manipulate the symbols and in small groups reason abstractly and quantitatively to make sense of the problem.

They eventually de-conseptualize the constraints to understand the variables, solve the problem, and reinforce their math skills. Throughout the exercise, the teacher directs the process by asking questions that direct the students to success in problem solving.

        CCMP2 - Part 1 - The Ability to Decontextualize (Example 1)

In this segment, you’ll see the importance of using models to simplify and promote the understanding of mathematical problems.

CCMP2 - Part 3 - Ability to contextualize and use quantitative reasoning

In this segment, you’ll see how students take different approaches to solve real world math problems. You’ll see that students have much more freedom to find various ways to solve problems depending on the context and constraints.
