        1964: "Anger in Harlem"

        As blacks fought for civil rights in the South, blacks in the North questioned the commitment of whites to racial equality, as shown in this video from American Experience: “1964.” The shooting of a black teenager by a white officer in Harlem led to an angry response from blacks, who were frustrated by the slow progress of civil rights and continued unfair treatment by police.
