The interactive comic, “So Funny I Forgot to Laugh,” based on the characters and storyline from PBS children’s series ARTHUR, lets students explore the topics of empathy and bullying. As the story opens, Arthur teases his friend Sue Ellen about a new sweater. At first, Sue Ellen goes along with the joke, but soon Arthur takes the teasing too far. Students explore how Arthur’s teasing makes Sue Ellen feel and how different choices lead to different outcomes.

“So Funny I Forgot to Laugh” is one of five interactive comics and games included in the Arthur Interactive Media (AIM) Buddy Project. The AIM Buddy Project is an innovative, media-rich, supplemental curriculum that leverages the power of ARTHUR and a cross-grade buddy learning platform to help promote social, emotional, and character development in elementary school students. The program components developed in partnership with a research team from Tufts University, include five new interactive comics and games aimed at encouraging cross-grade student pairs to actively explore the topics of empathy, honesty, forgiveness, generosity, and learning from others, a comprehensive online teacher guide, and five teacher planning and training videos.
The AIM Buddy Project materials will be available for free on PBS Learning Media in January 2017!
