        The Germans from Russia | Children of the Steppe, Children of the Prairie

        Learn why the Germans from Russia are one of the most misunderstood ethnic groups in America; German in culture but Russian in dress they were often misunderstood in America. This clip tells of their shift from Germany to Russia during the 1700's under the rule of Catherine the Great. When she offered German families Russian land nearly 7000 took her up on her offer and moved into Russia. It is said that although the Germans from Russia have always had a love of homeland, they have also always been able to embrace mobility.
