        World War II Civilian Rose Cunningham | Georgia Oral History

        Mrs. Rose Cunningham, born in Romania, on December 12, 1927, was raised Catholic, but she discovered that her family was of Jewish heritage when her family moved to Paris to escape the Nazis. Her family was in Paris when the Nazis invaded on September 3, 1939 and she describes their subsequent flight to safety. Mrs. Cunningham and her family fled to Casablanca and finally to Cuba. It was while in Cuba that she met her husband. She goes on to explain how her proficiency in languages gave her many opportunities and how she became a foreign consul. Mrs. Cunningham is the author of Joie de Vivre.
