Alien Minds | STEAM: Ideas That Shape Our World

In astrobiology, scientists study how life evolves in the universe. Susan Schneider, a cognitive scientist and philosopher, was asked by NASA to consider what alien life might be like. If advanced, intelligent alien life is ever discovered, she says, it most likely will be a form of superintelligent artificial intelligence (SAI). She explains the types of superintelligence and considers whether this type of alien life will have consciousness. Her talk was part of the 2016 IdeaFestival in Louisville, Ky.

Aliens: From Biological Life to Synthetic Life | STEAM: Ideas That Shape Our World

Schneider hypothesizes that most intelligent alien life will be based on silicon instead of carbon.

What are BISAs? | STEAM: Ideas That Shape Our World

Schneider explains how insights into how the biological brain works could be used to program a machine, creating biologically inspired superintelligence (BISA).
