        Gerald Ford (1974-1977)

This media gallery features images of President Gerald Ford from the National Archives.

Gerald R. Ford, Jr. as a child

This 1918 photograph shows Gerald R. Ford, Jr., who grew up to become the 38th President of the United States. Ford was raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He wears a white knee pants outfit, high button shoes, and a “Buster Brown” hairstyle. Buster Brown was a character in one of the earliest newspaper cartoon strips. Ford’s outfit, however, is not a costume, but is typical for young children of the era.
