        First Ladies and Their Aides

This media gallery highlights images of First Ladies meeting with their aides. First Ladies since Caroline Harrison in 1889 have employeed aides and support staff, including social secretaries, personal secretaries, and more recently, many others. Rosalynn Carter was the first to have an office officially called “Office of the First Lady,” located in the East Wing of the White House, where the President and First Family live. Hilary Clinton had an office in the West Wing, where Presidential offices are located, and a staff of twenty. This support is integral to helping the First Lady carry out her multifaceted duties across the social and political realms.
