George Wright At Yosemite National Park | Ken Burns: The National Parks

As a young park service biologist, George Melendez Wright undertook the first scientific study of wildlife and plant life conditions in the parks, and proposed new policies for letting nature take its course. Though his life was cut short by a tragic accident at age 31, his ideas eventually prevailed. Source: Harper's Ferry National Park Service Historic Photograph Collection.
