Are We Alone? Ch. 4: Listening for extraterrestrial Life | Genius by Stephen Hawking

In this clip from Genius by Stephen Hawking, three volunteers set out to try and listen to extraterrestrial civilizations using a giant radio telescope. The radio telescope at Jodrell Bank is 250 ft tall, wherever the radio telescope points it receives electromagnetic vibrations from space. This is because distant stars and planets, in fact everything in our galaxy, emits radio waves. The white noise the volunteers hear is the combined sound of the whole universe. Using an equalizer and a megaphone, the volunteers set out to simulate a message from deep space.
