The Activist as Politician | Part 6 | John Lewis: Get in the Way

Lewis joined the presidential campaign of Robert Kennedy in 1968 and discovered his attraction to a career in politics. When the seat to represent Atlanta in the U.S. Congress opened up in 1986, he jumped into the race. He ran against his best friend and former activist, Julian Bond in a polarizing race. Though Lewis won with an upset victory, his friendship with Bond was damaged for years.
