        Loving Cup, 1854 | A State Divided

A loving cup is given to someone as a reward or to honor them. Luke Pryor Blackburn received this cup after he helped to stop yellow fever in Mississippi. Blackburn often helped sick people for free. He even funded a hospital with his own money. Surprisingly, he was arrested for trying to spread yellow fever in Northern cities. He was accused of sending sick people’s sheets to Northern merchants. People still argue about whether he was guilty or not.
