Newspaper Clipping, “Bivouac of the Dead,” c. 1865 | A State Divided

This is a page from Laura Pugh’s scrapbook. She made the scrapbook to honor Confederate soldiers. On this page is a clipping from a newspaper of the poem “Bivouac of the Dead.” Thomas O'Hara, who is from Danville, Kentucky, wrote the poem in the late 1840s. The poem was popular in both the North and the South during the Civil War. It is engraved on many cemetery monuments from the period.
