"My Old Kentucky Home" was written in 1852 by Stephen Foster. Her originally titled it “Poor Old Uncle Tom, Good-night,” and was possibly inspired by the Harriet Beecher Stowe’s anti-slavery novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin.
In the early 20th century, many states passed legislation to declare state songs. “My Old Kentucky Home,” was chosen in 1928 by Kentucky’s legislature to be the state song.
