Using Graphs to Identify Patterns and Trends in US Immigrant Residency

This infographic displays data on immigrant residency in the United States between 1820 and 2012. In the accompanying classroom activity, students analyze the graphical data to answer the question, What is the story of immigration in the United States? In their analysis, students identify patterns, trends, and periods of exceptional growth or decline. They also develop a list of questions about immigration and U.S. history that they are interested in pursuing. This resource is part of the Math at the Core: Middle School Collection.
