The Lowdown | Modeling Relationships: The Cost of College

In this infographic, compare the cost of tuition over time to employment rates and job growth by education. In the accompanying classroom activity, students predict the cost of four years of college tuition and discuss the idea of whether college is worth it. They use the infographic, extrapolate tuition costs for their own college years, and revisit whether college is worth it, using data to support their arguments. To get the most from the activity, students should understand connections among proportional relationships, lines, and linear equations. They should also be able to perform calculations involving annual percent increase.
