Nicholas Benson, Stone Carver | MacArthur Fellows Program

In this interview, 2010 MacArthur Fellow Nicholas Benson talks about being a third-generation stone carver, calligrapher, and designer and the importance of sustaining craftsmanship while expanding the boundaries of his medium. His work can be seen on memorials and buildings throughout the United States, including the new Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial. While Benson expands the traditional art of stone carving, he is also teaching young artisans who will ensure that the legacy of this centuries-old artistic practice endures. This resource is part of the MacArthur Fellows Program Collection.
