        Hispaniola: An Island Divided

Immediately following the devastating Haitian earthquake of January 2010, many Haitians sought refuge in the neighboring Dominican Republic (D.R.) but their arrival resulted in escalating tensions between the two nations. Despite protests from human rights groups, the D.R. has initiated massive deportations targeting Haitians, whether they arrived legally or illegally. Additionally, a law passed in January 2011 stripped some Dominicans of Haitian descent of their citizenship.

This video was adapted from the Need to Know story "An island divided: Haitian immigrants deported from the Dominican Republic."
