Learn why scientists are looking for Earth-like planets in this video from NOVA: Alien Planets Revealed. As part of the quest to find life beyond Earth, NASA’s Kepler mission focuses on looking for planets similar to Earth, which is known to be habitable. Scientists who study the relationship between life and water have yet to find any organisms that can survive without water. And so, in the search for extraterrestrial life, scientists are searching for planets in the “Goldilocks zone” around stars, where the temperature is just right—not too hot and not too cold—for liquid water.
