Death Dive to Saturn | Introduction to Saturn and Its Atmosphere

Learn about Saturn and its turbulent atmosphere in this video from NOVA: Death Dive to Saturn. Saturn is the second-largest planet in our solar system, with a diameter that is about 10 times the size of Earth’s. However, Saturn is not very dense. Since 2004, NASA’s Cassini spacecraft has captured dramatic images of Saturn, including the changing appearance of the “hexagon” at its northern pole, the evolution of a giant storm from 2010–2011, and a large thunderstorm the size of the continental United States. Studying the weather on Saturn helps scientists better understand atmospheric phenomena and can change perspectives about weather on Earth. This resource is part of the NOVA Collection.
