Guide students and families to make and test toys that model two amazing ways seeds travel—by exploding and twirling in the wind—in this hands-on outdoor activity from PLUM LANDING. First, families observe different seed pods, and look for evidence of the different ways spread their seeds. Then they construct seed toys and compete to see who can spread their “seeds” the farthest. Families share their observations and make connections to the ways seeds might spread in cities in towns, where resources like space, light, and nutrients might be scarce.
