        Lord Howe organizes the British evacuation of Boston in March 1776

        English School. Medium: colour engraving. The eleven month siege of Boston, during the American Revolutionary War, ended when the Continental Army fortified Dorchester Heights in early March 1776 with cannons captured at Ticonderoga; at this point General William Howe lead the retreat of British soldiers, withdrawing from Boston to Nova Scotia on 17th March 1776; Provenance: Private Collection / Peter Newark Pictures.
