The Battle of Stirling Bridge took place during the First War of Scottish Independence; On 11th September 1297, the forces of Andrew Moray (d.1297) and William Wallace (c.1270-1305) defeated the combined English forces of John de Warenne, 7th Earl of Surrey and Hugh de Cressingham near Stirling, on the River Forth; Provenance: Private Collection / Peter Newark Pictures.
