In this interview, 2010 MacArthur Fellow Sebastian Ruth describes the process of transforming a storefront space into a thriving creative space for urban youth and their families in Providence, Rhode Island. Ruth, a musician, founded Community MusicWorks to offer performances and free musical instruction for the community. The program also provides students with instruments and offers close mentoring relationships with instructors. Ruth’s work is creating rewarding musical experiences for youth and modeling a new role for twenty-first-century musicians. This resource is part of the MacArthur Fellows Program Collection.
